Villaintine's Day
'One of the basic rules of storytelling is simple: you can’t have a great story without a great villain. Disney has always understood that, and over the years they’ve given us some truly unforgettable ones. These characters aren’t just obstacles for the hero—they are the story. They drive the action, raise the stakes, and bring their own distinctive brand of mischief, menace, and personality that makes the journey memorable.
Growing up, my favourite Disney villain was Cruella de Vil. She was delightfully over the top—stylish, dramatic, and unapologetically mean. To this day, I still hear the words from her song: ‘If she doesn’t scare you, no evil thing will!’ That alone tells you everything you need to know about her. Maleficent is another classic, elegant and terrifying all at once. Jafar’s scheming ambition and Captain Hook’s theatrical bravado made them impossible to forget.

As the years went by, I found new favourites, including Ursula. She’s the newest addition to my Deluxe Villains collection, and I absolutely love her swirling tentacles and larger-than-life presence. She’s bold, powerful, and completely confident in who she is—what’s not to admire?
So this year, in honour of all these iconic Disney villains, we’re celebrating Villaintine’s Day instead of Valentine’s. After all, what’s more romantic than a little drama, a lot of personality, and a love of characters who aren’t afraid to be bad? I think it’s very romantic!'
